HOLLYWOOD—I really like to cook, and almost nothing is much more entertaining than witnessing legendary, culinary titans in the kitchen going through unsurmountable odds and providing foods that leaves you speechless and wanting additional. I honestly assumed and still think “The Future Iron Chef” sequence is 1 of the finest culinary cooking competitions ever. I have a main like for year 4 and time 5 of the series folks. That delivers me to Foods Network’s “Tournament of Champions.”
The first year was insane with Chef Brooke Williamson, a seventh seed rising to the best defeating fourth seed Amanda Freitag. Search individuals have slept on Amanda, that female can cook dinner her a** off and I’m still a bit bitter that she shed to Alex Guarnaschelli during the fifth season of “The Subsequent Iron Chef.” I like Alex continue to, but Amanda was killing it that season. With that claimed, the second season of the sequence returned this week and whew the amount of firepower persons, I believed the 1st time experienced powerhouse chefs, but damn, year two elevated the stakes.
For these not in the know, it is like an NCAA Bracket, only as an alternative of 64 groups, its 16 chefs, and for period two we kicked off with a wild card battle with 8 cooks, competing for two seeds (a single in the West and one particular in the East). I will acknowledge I did not know all the chefs competing in the wild card round. Names that did stand out Nyesha Aarington, Chris Cosentino and Elizabeth Faulkner, names I know that competed on “The Upcoming Iron Chef” and the Bravo hit “Top Chef.”
It was a fight for the West, and the first fight associated Chris and Nyesha and the randomizer leading to complete chaos as we know. I appreciate this because it is so random and it forces the chefs to consider brief on their toes, with an unfamiliar protein, deliver, piece of tools, design of cooking and the amount of time. Whew, this first round of floor beef, avocado, box grater and a responsible satisfaction in 30 minutes, whew, fantastic luck. I was rooting for both of them for the reason that they are culinary powerhouses.
In addition, this sequence is so excellent due to the fact we have blind tasting. That does support because the judges are NOT affected by who is cooking and opportunity friendships staying damage by scoring. The judges for this round incorporated Marcus Samuelsson, Giada De Laurentiis and Rocco DiSpirito. Astonished to see Rocco as a choose, looking at he was a competitor very last period. Chris’ dish looked excellent, upscale and delicious as hell, while Nyesha’s seemed a bit much more family members good friend I wasn’t confident about it as a dish on a culinary opposition. This 1st battle was determined by 2 factors with Nyesha just scarcely shifting on versus Chris who I considered really should have taken the spherical. Gosh, my investment in these cooks in this tournament is crazy!
The second battle saw Chefs Chris Oh and Phillip Frankland Lee duking it out more than chicken cutlets, takeout food, shallots and make the most of the handheld mixer in the course of action. I immediately believed Chris’ dish was takeout, whilst, Phillip’s was additional cafe worthy, but did not scream takeout for me, which most of the judges agreed with, and it was simple to see how Chris Oh moved on to the future spherical.
So it was a fight from Nyesha and Chris Oh for that coveted eighth seed in the West location. The struggle included shrimp, russet potatoes, blender, Sunday brunch and in 30 minutes. Yeah, I never even know what I would do with these ingredients. I think it was the brunch facet that threw me off, but both cooks arrived up with special suggestions.
When designed a shrimp hollandaise, the other arrived up with a breakfast taco employing seafood as the vessel. It was on the lookout dicey for both of those chefs who had legitimate critiques from the judges, but it was Nyesha who came out with the victory and managed to generate that 8th seed in the West region. So the west has its competition and now it is time to come across out which chef from the Wild Card location will get paid that 8th seed for the East.
Upcoming 7 days, we see a powerhouse in Elizabeth Faulkner compete against others for that eighth seed in the East. I hate to say it, but I’m secretly rooting for Elizabeth individuals. “Tournament of the Champions II” airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on Meals Network.
